Delaware County, PA – Octubre 22, 2024 – State Senator Tim Kearney (D-Delaware) today announced a total of $11,225,226 in state grants for nearly two dozen projects in Delaware County. The funding was awarded Martes afternoon by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED).
Of the $11.2 million awarded, more than $6.5 million is going toward 16 projects thanks to the Local Share Account (LSA) – Statewide grant program, and nearly $4.7 million is going toward seven projects thanks to the Public School Facilities Improvement Grant Program (PSFIG). LSA – Statewide grants support projects in the public interest within the commonwealth; PSFIG provides grants to public school districts and area career and technical schools for eligible facility improvement projects.

The awardees and a brief description of the projects are as follows:
LSA – STATEWIDE:
- Central Delaware County Authority was awarded $500,000 to rehabilitate sanitary sewer systems in Ridley Township, Rutledge, Morton, and Prospect Park Boroughs.
- Clifton Heights Borough was awarded $30,000 to conduct a business district parking study.
- Clifton Heights Borough was awarded $122,508 for the purchase of two police vehicles.
- East Lansdowne Borough, on behalf of the East Lansdowne Police Department, was awarded $133,145 for the purchase of ELPD community cameras.
- East Lansdowne Borough was awarded $1,000,000 to replace aging sewer infrastructure on Long Lane.
- East Lansdowne Borough was awarded $159,000 to purchase a dump truck and a code enforcement vehicle.
- East Lansdowne Borough was awarded $60,000 to construct pedestrian infrastructure and storm sewer improvements at the intersection of Pembroke and Lewis Avenues.
- Marple Township was awarded $146,886 for the purchase and upfitting of two police vehicles.
- Marple Township was awarded $605,000 for a field lighting project.
- Ridley Park Borough was awarded $500,000 to repair a pedestrian footbridge.
- Ridley Township was awarded $250,000 for a street revitalization project.
- Rutledge Borough was awarded $300,000 to be used for phase two of Triangle Park redevelopment.
- Springfield Township was awarded $1,000,000 for the construction of an accessible park located at Saxer Avenue.
- Swarthmore Borough was awarded $694,100 for a stream and park restoration project at Little Crum Creek Park.
- Upper Darby Township was awarded $750,000 for updates and repairs to four pedestrian bridges.
- Upper Providence Township was awarded $300,000 to purchase a vacant lot to create a communal multi-use greenspace.
PUBLIC SCHOOL FACILITIES IMPROVEMENT GRANT PROGRAM (PSFIG):
- Delaware County Intermediate Unit Career and Technical School was awarded $1,500,000 for a roof repair and replacement project at Folcroft Career and Technical School, Marple Education Center, County Alternative School, and the Morton Educational Services Center.
- Note: the funding for this project is announced in partnership with Senators John Kane and Anthony Williams, who also represent parts of Delaware County.
- Interboro School District was awarded $500,000 for HVAC, plumbing, and health and safety projects at the Kindergarten & Elementary Learning Academy.
- Marple Newtown School District was awarded $374,587 for roof repairs at Paxon Hollow Middle School.
- Springfield School District was awarded $300,000 for a health and safety upgrade project at ET Richardson Middle School.
- Upper Darby School District was awarded $1,000,000 for a health and safety project at the Kindergarten Center, Upper Darby High School, Beverly Hills and Drexel Hills Middle Schools, as well as Bywood, Garrettford, Highland Park, Hillcrest, Primos, Stonehurst, and Westbrook Elementary Schools.
- William Penn School District was awarded $500,000 for an HVAC project at the Aldan, Bell Avenue, Colwyn, Park Lane, and Walnut Street Elementary School facilities and the Penn Wood High School-Cypress Street and Penn Wood High School-Green Avenue facilities.
- William Penn School District was awarded $500,000 for an emergency roof replacement project at East Lansdowne Elementary School.
