SPRINGFIELD (Noviembre 12, 2019) – Sen. Tim Kearney (D – Delaware, Chester) today announced that over $1.8 million in state grants will go to projects within District 26. Funding for these projects comes from the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Multimodal Transportation Fund.

“From improving pedestrian safety to creating new opportunities for local businesses, these projects will better connect our communities and strengthen our economy,” said Senator Kearney. “This funding will enable necessary improvements to our infrastructure so we can enhance mobility and open doors to economic growth. I am grateful for this critical investment in District 26.”

Projects approved for funding include:

  • $1.4 million to relocate Tinicum Island Road at the Philadelphia International Airport in Tinicum to enable the development of the 136-acre Henderson Tract into an air cargo facility. The new facility will allow the airport to fully utilize the value of land that would otherwise be sitting unused.
  • $250,000 for intersection improvements, including a new traffic signal and crosswalk, that will enable the proposed redevelopment at 63rd and Market Streets in Millbourne.
  • $100,000 to enhance pedestrian safety along North Providence Road and Sandybank Road in Upper Providence Township. The project will include three new crosswalks with ADA curb ramps, pedestrian school flashing devices, lighting, and landscaping.
  • $100,000 to improve pedestrian crossings at 13 intersections in Media, including the installation of accessible pedestrian signals, crosswalks, and ADA compliant curbs.

The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the Commonwealth. Funds may be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development.
