DELAWARE COUNTY, PA – Octubre 28, 2024 – Sen. Tim Kearney (D – Delaware) and Rep. Gina H. Curry (D – Delaware), in partnership with Jefferson Health recently hosted two mobile mammogram screenings in Upper Darby to increase access to vital preventative healthcare services for women in Delaware County.

The screenings began in Agosto, with the most recent event held on Octubre 24, strategically timed for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. These events provided uninsured and underinsured residents aged 40 and older the opportunity to receive a free mammogram.

E. Lansdowne resident Tynia Stevens, the first participant screened at the Octubre event, shared how impactful the service was for her. “I was happy to hear about this event because I recently lost my job and didn’t have insurance. My mammogram was due last month, so this was a blessing for me. I usually go to Jefferson Health for my screenings, so seeing their mobile mammogram van here made it even better.” Stevens, who has a family history of breast cancer, expressed gratitude for the accessible screening after missing her annual appointment.

“Our goal is to make preventative care accessible to every constituent because early detection can be life-saving,” said Senator Kearney. “Events like these mobile mammogram screenings ensure that critical health services reach those who need them most, regardless of insurance status. I’m grateful for the incredible partnerships that made this possible, and I am proud to see residents take advantage of the services and resources.”

At the Octubre event, additional health services were offered to create a community health fair atmosphere, including free flu shots and blood pressure screenings through the Delaware County Health Department’s Immunization Coalition. Representatives from Pennie, ChesPenn Health Services, the American Cancer Society, and Sun East Federal Credit Union also joined the event and provided health resources and financial support information to attendees and residents in the area.

“Bringing the community together with our mobile mammogram bus to provide important resources, health awareness, and medical screenings is critical,” said Rep. Curry. “Preventive measures and accessible care can truly change lives. I’m proud to partner with Sen. Kearney and his team in this collaborative effort to make a meaningful impact.”

The support of Jefferson Health was instrumental in making these mobile screenings possible. Sen. Kearney and Rep. Curry would like to thank every organization that provided free services and resources to the community, helping to make it a success.

The elected officials also encourage uninsured or underinsured residents who missed the event and need to schedule a screening to visit here to find upcoming events.
