SPRINGFIELD − Febrero 27, 2020 – Senator Tim Kearney (D – Delaware, Chester) today announced the award of $2.5 million in state funding for school safety in Delaware and Chester Counties.

“Every child deserves to learn in a safe and nurturing environment,” said Senator Kearney. “It is our responsibility to ensure that schools have the resources they need to protect their students and staff. This funding allows us to invest in a comprehensive and thoughtful approach to school safety that will set our children up for success.”

Funds will be used for a variety of purposes, including performing school safety assessments, implementing research-based violence prevention programs and trauma-informed services, and purchasing security-related technology and equipment.

Grants approved in Senator Kearney’s district include:

  • $495,000 for William Penn School District
  • $490,000 for Interboro School District
  • $480,065 for Tredyffrin-Easttown School District
  • $256,693 for Chester County Intermediate Unit 24
  • $244,660 for Great Valley School District
  • $235,000 for Wallingford-Swarthmore School District
  • $141,580 for Springfield School District
  • $45,000 for Ridley School District
  • $45,000 for Rose Tree Media School District
  • $45,000 for Upper Darby School District
  • $40,000 for Marple Newtown School District

Grants were awarded through the School Safety and Security Fund, which was created by Act 44 of 2018 to provide funding to school districts for school safety and security concerns. Today’s announcement was part of $57 million was distributed statewide.
