SPRINGFIELD, PA – Diciembre 6, 2021 – Senator Tim Kearney (D-Delaware) today announced that state grant funding totaling more than $7.5 million has been awarded to Delaware County.

Delaware County Community College, Media Borough, and Delaware County will receive Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) funding to help with redevelopment projects in the area.

“I am happy to see this funding come to Delaware County,” said Senator Kearney “These projects are transformative community initiatives that are critical to redevelopment and expansion in our area.  Each of these projects make living in Delco better for current residents and more attractive to future ones.”

Delaware County Community College was awarded $2.5 million for assistance with a project to construct a new Southeast Campus located in Upper Darby Township. The project will transform an old-vacant property into a comprehensive, multi-use facility to provide quality, affordable education and training, and community programming. The site will also be home to an Early Childhood Education Center that will house two faculty offices and a classroom for early childhood education courses.

Media Borough received $500,000 for the Plum Street Park project, which will convert 5,500 square feet of a brick and concrete pedestrian corridor in the middle of downtown, into a shady, ADA accessible park with trees. The project will include seating and tables, a splashing fountain, a trellised performance area, decorative lighting, and updated stormwater infrastructure.

Delaware County was awarded $4,561,000 to fully fund the Delaware County 911 Communications II project located in Middletown Township. With the funding, Delco 911 Communications sites will be redeveloped, and additional sites will be created to help preserve the integrity of the 911 communications system. 24 communications towers will receive upgrades. Shelter structures, grounding, electrical and HVAC needs, as well as other infrastructure-related updates, will be made. The funding will also help procure new 911 center equipment.
