Funding will support park improvements, tree planting, accessibility upgrades, and open space investments across Delaware County

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA – October 9, 2026 – State Senator Tim Kearney today announced that communities throughout the 26th Senatorial District will receive more than $1.4 million in grants through the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ 2026 Community Conservation Partnerships Program.

The funding will support improvements to local parks and recreational spaces, along with urban and community forestry initiatives serving Delaware County residents.

“These grants represent important investments in the parks, green spaces, and community amenities that Delaware County residents rely on every day,” said Senator Kearney. “Whether it’s improving playgrounds, expanding accessibility, planting trees, or enhancing public spaces, these projects will help strengthen our communities and improve quality of life for residents throughout the district.”

The 26th District awards are part of a statewide investment of $81 million through DCNR’s Community Conservation Partnerships Program, announced this week by Governor Josh Shapiro. The funding will support 306 projects across 60 counties, helping communities improve parks and playgrounds, expand recreational opportunities, conserve open space, and strengthen local quality of life throughout Pennsylvania.

Projects receiving funding within the 26th Senate District include:

  • Jacobs Park (Morton Borough) — $193,300 for a renovated basketball court, new playground equipment, pedestrian walkways, and ADA improvements
  • Moore’s Lake Park (Prospect Park Borough) — $115,000 for pavilion renovations, walkways, parking improvements, and utilities upgrades
  • Bonnes Park (Ridley Park Borough) — $72,100 for walkway improvements, playground safety surfacing, lighting, and ADA upgrades
  • Cherry Street Park (Upper Providence Township) — $895,500 for a nature play area, new playground equipment, stormwater improvements, lighting, and ADA upgrades
  • Pennsylvania Horticultural Society — $150,000 to support urban and community forestry programs, including tree planting and stewardship initiatives across Delaware County and the surrounding region

The Community Conservation Partnerships Program supports projects that conserve natural resources, expand recreational opportunities, protect open space, and improve community parks and outdoor facilities.

Funding comes from a variety of state and federal sources, including the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund, Environmental Stewardship Fund, Land and Water Conservation Fund, and Pennsylvania Recreational Trails Program.
