Sickle Cell Blood Drive

September 4 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Representative Gina H. Curry and I are proud to partner with the Red Cross for our first Sickle Cell Blood Drive. Blood donors who are Black play a vital role in supporting individuals with sickle cell disease, which is the most common genetic blood disorder in the United States.

One in three African American blood donors are a match for people with sickle cell disease. Red blood cells carry markers called antigens on their surface that determine one’s blood type. There are more than 600 known antigens, and some are unique to specific racial and ethnic groups. By donating blood, you can make a difference in the life of a patient with sickle cell disease, people with complicated childbirths, individuals fighting cancer, or trauma

The need for blood is constant and only volunteer donors can fulfill that need for patients in our community. Nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every 2 to 3 seconds and most of us will need blood in our lifetime.

Anyone who donates at this drive will receive a $20 Amazon E-gift card, a Red Cross T-shirt, and be tested for the Sickle Cell Trait.
