Swarthmore – September 18, 2019 – Sen. Tim Kearney (D- Chester/Delaware) announced today that projects throughout his district would be receiving a total of $450,000 through the state’s Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program.

“I am very pleased that this investment in recreational facilities and outdoor areas is being made,” Kearney said. “As an architect, I appreciate how important well designed and maintained public areas are to our communities.”

Projects receiving funding include:

  • The Friends of Smedley Park Corp. will receive $250,000 for the Springfield Trail Improvement.
  • Marple Township will receive $125,000 towards the Veterans Memorial Park Playground Revitalization.
  • Upper Darby Township will receive $75,000 for the Muckinipates Park Expansion.

The Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED). The Commonwealth Financing Authority allocates these funds to DCED to aid in the development and rehabilitation projects across Pennsylvania.
