DELAWARE COUNTY, PA – August 8, 2024 – Yesterday, Prospect Medical Holdings, Inc. released a statement that it had entered into an agreement with CHA Partners, LLC to purchase Crozer Health. While the sale of the system has been the prime goal for many months, the lack of transparency regarding the details of this deal raises concerns.
Below is Senator Tim Kearney’s (D-Delaware) statement on CHA’s potential acquisition of Crozer Health:
I am deeply concerned about the lack of transparency and the details surrounding the recent announcement of the potential sale of Crozer Health to CHA. The health and well-being of our constituents in Delaware County must be the top priority. I am calling on the Attorney General to conduct a thorough analysis of this acquisition. CHA’s track record must be carefully examined to determine if it is indeed a responsible and suitable buyer that will prioritize the healthcare needs of our community.
It is essential that this process is transparent from beginning to end. The public deserves to know the terms and conditions of this deal and how they will ensure adequate and responsible care for our residents.
Additionally, I cannot support any agreement that would absolve Prospect of its responsibility to secure a reputable healthcare provider and ensure a successful transition of ownership. Prospect’s mismanagement of Crozer Health is the prime reason that I am championing and have introduced for-profit healthcare reform legislation that will empower the Attorney General’s office to more effectively analyze these deals, thus protecting our local healthcare systems and constituents from corporate greed and mismanagement in the future.
As this acquisition process unfolds, I will continue to advocate for sustainable partnerships and funding solutions that preserve our community’s access to quality healthcare. However, I will not support the use of taxpayer dollars to bail out Prospect as a result of its negligence. Simply creating a nonprofit entity does not shift responsibility, and we must ensure that any future agreements are in the best interest of Delconians and the broader community, not just corporate bottom lines.
